The United Kingdom and China have signed an agreement paving the way for China to invest in and to build nuclear power plants in the UK. Chinese companies could invest in the development of Hinkley Point C, promoted by EDF and consisting of two 1,600 MW EPR reactors on the Somerset coast. In October 2013, EDF and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) reached an agreement on the commercial terms for the projects and EDF was allowed to secure partners for the project: China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) and China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) could take 30% to 40% of the project. The UK and China also signed an agreement on joint civil nuclear cooperation.
Meanwhile, Rolls-Royce has signed Memoranda of Understanding with State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation and China General Nuclear Power on possible cooperation in engineering support, provision of components and systems, supply chain management and instrumentation and control technology.
