China commissions a 500 MW/2,000 MWh standalone BESS in Inner Mongolia

Tongliao Conch New Energy, a subsidiary of Conch Cement Group, has developed, financed and commissioned a 500 MW/2,000 MWh standalone BESS in Naiman Banner, Tongliao (Inner Mongolia (northern China). The project, whose construction began in June 2025, recently completed grid-connection tests, coming one month ahead of schedule. The project uses lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery technology and includes a 220 kV booster substation, allowing direct connection to the regional high-voltage grid. The facility is expected to deliver around 600 GWh/year of peak–valley shifting, with a maximum annual throughput of 1.5 TWh.

The project is Inner Mongolia’s largest single-site new-type energy storage facility.
