China added almost 17 GW of offshore wind capacity in 2021

China's installed wind and solar capacity increased by more than 101 GW in 2021, with the installation of 53 GW of solar and 47.6 GW of wind, including 16.9 GW of offshore wind, according to the country's National Energy Administration (NEA). China's offshore wind capacity stood at 26.4 GW at the end of 2021, ranking first in the world. At the end of 2020, the world's offshore wind capacity stood at 34.9 GW, with 10.4 GW in the United Kingdom, 9 GW in China and 7.7 GW in Germany.

In October 2021, China updated its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), pledging to bring its total installed capacity of wind and solar power to over 1,200 GW by 2030. At the end of 2020, China had nearly 282 GW of installed wind capacity, and over 253 GW of solar capacity.
