Chile's renewable capacity additions accelerate in early 2014

According to statistics released by the Centre for Renewable Energy of the Ministry of Energy-CORFO of Chile, about 240 MW of renewable power capacities were added to the grid during the first two months of 2014, which corresponds to 99% of the total renewable capacity addition of 2013. At the end of February 2014, renewable capacity reached 1,352 MW, including 444 MW of bio-energy (33%), 421 MW of wind (31%), 338 MW of small hydropower (25%) and 150 MW of solar (11%). Renewable power generation reached 794 GWh, i.e. 7% of total power generation. Two large solar PV parks were commissioned by SunEdison over the period, the 48 MW San Andres and the 93 MW Llano de Llampos parks, both in the Atacama region.

At the end of February 2014, 927 MW of renewable projects were under construction, of which 585 MW are wind projects, 225 MW solar, 85 MW mini hydro plants and 32 bioenergy. The portfolio of projects is 16,631 MW of which 10,785 MW projects with the Environmental Qualification Resolution adopted, led by solar projects (5,951 MW) and wind (4,359 MW).
