Chile’s GM starts commissioning of 480 MW CEME1 solar project

The Chilean power utility Generadora Metropolitana (GM), a joint venture between the French group EDF and the Chilean company AME, has started the commissioning process of its 480 MW CEME1 solar PV project, with the energization of the facilities, interconnection to the Chilean National Electric System and the execution of tests. The CEME1 solar photovoltaic project is located in María Elena (Antofagasta region), it has more than 882,000 solar panels, with the capacity to generate the equivalent energy to supply more than 500,000 homes. The power plant includes a transmission line of around 10 km that will be connected to the National Electric System at the Miraje substation. The project began construction in June 2022.

At the end of 2022, Chile had a total installed capacity of 37.6 GW, of which solar accounted for 7.9 GW (21%); solar also covered 15% of the total power generation in the country in 2022.
