Chile updates its annual proposal for the expansion of its power system

The Chilean National Electricity Coordinator (CEN) has submitted a complement to the annual proposal for the expansion of the electricity transmission system to the country’s National Energy Commission. The complement includes seven projects with a total value of US$82m. Two projects are for the National Transmission System, while five are for the Zonal Transmission System.

The report also updates the proposal presented earlier in the year, with revised investment values and construction deadlines for the 23 projects included. Additionally, auxiliary power lines have been incorporated to support the expansion of transmission line projects, bringing the total investment value to US$381m.

The expanded proposal now comprises a total of 30 projects. Notably, one project aims to ensure energy supply in the Ñuble region through the construction of the New Chillán 220/66 kV substation and a new 2x220 kV transmission line connecting to the Entre Ríos substation. Overall, the transmission expansion proposal aims to enhance the electricity transmission system in Chile, ensuring reliable supply and addressing congestion issues in various regions.
