The Chilean Government has announced the adjustment of the control mechanism on fuel prices to cope with the international impact of the conflict in the Middle East and internal fiscal restrictions (Biobiochile, 24/03/2026).
The announcement was made as part of a plan called "Chile Comes Ahead", of which one of the central axes is the adjustment of the Fuel Price Stabilization Mechanism (MEPCO), limiting its margin due to a high fiscal cost, hence allowing international price variations to be transferred more quickly to the local market. As of 26 March 2026, the prices of 93-octane gasoline and diesel are expected to increase to CLP370/litre (USD40c/litre) and CLP580/litre (USD63c/litre), respectively.
The country also announced a series of subsidies aimed at public transport and cargo, although the measure is subject to Congress approval.
