Chevron will boost production from Chuandongbei gas project in China

Unocal East China Sea, a Chevron's fully-owned subsidiary, plans to ramp up production at its Chuandongbei project in the Sichuan province in southwest China.

The development of the Chuangdongbei project is carried out in three stages, the first one comprising the development of the Luojiazhai and Gunziping gas fields (whose production will now be boosted) and the construction of the Xuanhan gas processing plant. The company started gas production from the first stage of the project in January 2016 and will use all three of its gas trains to reach a combined capacity of 258 mcf/d (7.3 mcm/d or 2.7 bcm/year).

The Chuandongbei project is estimated to contain potentially recoverable natural gas resources of 3 tcf (85 bcm).

Chuandongbei is one of the largest onshore gas projects developed by an international oil company (Unocal, 49%) and a national oil company (China National Petroleum Corporation, CNPC, 51%) in China. Partners signed a 30-year production sharing contract in 2007, aiming to supply 7.6 bcm/year of gas.
