Chevron goes ahead with second phase of Gorgon gas project (Australia)

The US energy group Chevron and its partners have decided to proceed with the second stage of the Gorgon gas project in Western Australia. Partners have committed to invest a further several billion dollars in investment and will drill 11 new wells in the Gorgon and Jansz-Io offshore gas fields. This investment decision fits into Chevron's previously announced annual investment range of US$18-20bn through 2020, even though the exact value of the second phase of Gorgon has not been revealed.

The Gorgon Project is operated by Chevron Australia and is a joint venture (JV) of the Australian subsidiaries of Chevron (47.3%), ExxonMobil (25%), Shell (25%), Osaka Gas (1.25%), Tokyo Gas (1%) and JERA (0.417%). Located on Barrow Island, Gorgon includes a three-train 15.6 Mt/year LNG facility and a domestic gas-fired power plant, which entered commercial operations in earlier 2016.
