Chevron delays Indonesia Deepwater Development (IDD) (Indonesia)

Chevron has made a final investment decision (FID) on its US$12bn Indonesia Deepwater Development (IDD) gas project in the Makassar Strait (East Kalimantan, Indonesia) with a revised plan of development, delaying the start of the project by up to two years (one-year delay announced in mid-October, followed by a revised update in late October 2014). The project involves five gas fields (namely Bangka, Gehem, Gendalo, Maha and Gandang) and four production sharing contracts (PSCs) for Ganal, Rapak, the Makassar Strait and Muara Bakau. Their cumulated reserves are estimated at 2,300 bcf (65 bcm). The Bangka gas field was expected to start production in 2016; Chevron sanctioned the start of this field but delayed a decision on the second phase (Gehem, GendaloMaha and Gandang), whose first fields (Gendalo and Gehem) were expected to start production in 2018 at a pace of 1.1 bcf/d (11.3 bcm/year) of gas and 47,000 bbl/d of condensate. Chevron has asked the government to extend the period of the Makassar Strait PSC from 2020 to 2028 to match with the other PSCs expiring in 2028.
