Chevron Australia and the Gorgon Joint Venture Participants have taken a final investment decision (FID) on the Gorgon Stage 3 development off the coast of Western Australia, Australia (Chevron press release, 05/12/2025). The AUD3bn (US$2bn) project plans to connect the offshore Geryon and Eurytion natural gas fields to Gorgon’s existing subsea gas gathering infrastructure and processing facilities on Barrow Island. The development involves the three manifolds and a 35 km production flowline, other associated infrastructure, and the drilling of six wells in the two fields. The project expects to enable long-term supply for Australia and international customers in Asia.
Gorgon has the capacity to produce 300 TJ/d of gas (about 3 bcm/year) for the Western Australia market and 15.6 Mt of LNG/year. The Chevron-operated Gorgon Project is a joint venture between Chevron (47.33%), ExxonMobil (25%), Shell (25%), Osaka Gas (1.25%), MidOcean (1%) and JERA (0.417%).
