Cheniere’s train 5 adds 1.5 Mt/year to Corpus Christi LNG (US)

Cheniere Energy has announced that Train 5 at its Corpus Christi LNG (CCL) expansion project in Texas (United States) is now operating at full capacity (Cheniere Energy press release, 27/03/2026). Train 5 is part of CCL Stage 3 project, a seven-train development expected to add 10 Mt/year of export capacity to the Corpus Christi LNG plant. The new unit will increase output by just under 1.5 Mt/year. The remaining two midscale trains are expected to reach substantial completion by the end of 2026.

This milestone follows the installation, earlier in March 2026, of first steel at the Midscale Trains 8 & 9 project, a second expansion currently under construction at Corpus Christi. Trains 8 and 9 are expected to bring online approximately 5 Mt/year of additional LNG production capacity by the end of 2028.

In addition, the US company is developing the Stage 4 Project, which will include four 6 Mt/year LNG trains for a total production capacity of 24 Mt/year of LNG. Cheniere expects to secure federal authorization for the project by May 2027.

Cheniere is one of the largest LNG exporters in the United States. Across its Sabine Pass LNG terminal and Corpus Christi LNG terminal, the company has approximately 52 Mt/year of liquefaction capacity in operation, over 9 Mt/year under construction, and more than 40 Mt/year in the regulatory permitting process.
