The US energy company Cheniere Energy has made a positive final investment decision (FID) regarding the third train of the Corpus Christi Liquefaction (CCL) project, located in San Patricio and Nueces Counties, in Texas (United States). According to Cheniere Energy, this is the first FID on new LNG liquefaction capacity in the United States since 2015. The third train will be similar to the first ones and will have a liquefaction capacity of 4.5 Mt/year.
Cheniere has already inked agreements for 2.97 Mt/year of the third train capacity.
The first two trains of Cheniere’s Corpus Christi Liquefaction project are currently under construction and are expected to be commissioned in 2019, while the third train is due in 2021. The project will also include three LNG storage tanks, two marine berths, and associated facilities. Cheniere Energy is also developing a second phase, consisting of 7 smaller LNG trains of 1.4 Mt/year each (total capacity of 9.5 Mt/year) that could be commissioned as of 2022.
