The US LNG infrastructure group Cheniere Energy has filed an application with the US Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to build a new LNG facility at its Corpus Christi site in Texas, United States (Offshore Technology, 06/02/2026).
- The current capacity of the Corpus Christi plant is 18 Mt/year, and the Stage 3 expansion currently underway will raise it to 25 Mt/year by the end of 2026.
- The planned Stage 4 expansion is intended to add 24 Mt/year of capacity to existing operations, with a proposal for four additional LNG trains, each with a potential production capacity of 6 Mt/year.
If approved, the Stage 4 expansion would increase the plant’s total capacity to 49 Mt/year. Cheniere expects to require 3.3 bcf/day (34 bcm/year) for this expansion and to secure federal authorization for the project by May 2027.
Cheniere currently operates total LNG capacity of 52 Mt/year and has a further 8 Mt/year under development. In June 2025, Cheniere announced a positive final investment decision for the expansion of the Corpus Christi LNG facility, including the construction of the 5 Mt/year Trains 8 and 9 (KEI, 26/06/2025).
