The first train of the US$15bn Corpus Christi greenfield LNG and export terminal project in Texas (United States) has reached substantial completion and is now fully commissioned. The 4.5 Mt/year train started to produce LNG in November 2018 and to export LNG cargoes in December 2018.
The engineering company Bechtel, which is responsible for designing and building the train and related facilities, has turned over custody and control of the project to US-based project company Cheniere Energy. The first commercial delivery of LNG is expected to occur in June 2019, upon which the term of the first sale and purchase agreements (SPAs) are slated to start. The LNG will be sold to several companies such as Endesa, PT Pertamina and Iberdrola.
The first phase of Corpus Christi LNG includes three 4.5 Mt/year liquefaction trains, with the second train expected to be commissioned in the second half of 2019. The third train is also under construction and is expected to be commissioned in 2021. The second phase of the project will include 7 smaller LNG trains of 1.4 Mt/year each (total capacity of 9.5 Mt/year) that could be brought online in 2022.
