Cheniere Energy (US) will supply 4 Mt/year of LNG to QatarEnergy until 2054

US LNG producer Cheniere Energy has entered into long-term sale and purchase agreements (SPAs) with QatarEnergy to supply a combined 4 Mt/year of LNG through to 2054 (Cheniere Energy press release, 22/10/2026). Under the agreements, Cheniere subsidiaries Sabine Pass Liquefaction (SPL) and Corpus Christi Liquefaction will each deliver 2 Mt/year to QatarEnergy.

“This major long-term purchase will expand and diversify our global LNG portfolio and advance our ability to meet the evolving requirements of the market. The additional volumes will complement QatarEnergy’s existing LNG supplies, enhance our supply and trading portfolio”, said the CEO of QatarEnergy.

LNG deliveries are scheduled to start in 2031 and continue until the end of 2054. However, 1 Mt/year of the volumes covered by the SPL agreement remains conditional on a positive Final Investment Decision (FID) for the first phase of the SPL Expansion Project.

Cheniere Energy is pursuing an expansion of its existing Sabine Pass facility to increase production capacity by approximately 20 Mt/year. Once completed, the project's total capacity could exceed 50 Mt/year. The expansion will be developed in several phases, beginning with a new 6 Mt/year liquefaction train (Train 7). In June 2026, Cheniere signed an agreement with Bechtel for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) works for the new train. A final investment decision (FID) is expected in early 2027, with exports from Train 7 potentially commencing as early as 2030 (KEI, 01/06/2026).

Sabine Pass currently operates six liquefaction trains, with a combined production capacity of approximately 30 Mt/year.
