Chad sets 250 kb/d oil production target for 2030

The Chadian government has unveiled a new strategic plan for the oil sector, aiming to increase crude oil production to 250 kb/d by 2030 (“Chad Connection 2030”, National Development Plan, October 2025). This target represents a 69% increase from the 2024 production of approximately 148 kb/d.

The plan outlines several objectives for the sector:

  • Award new oil exploration licenses to private partners to help achieve the new production target.
  • Facilitate the construction of a second refinery by the private sector and ensure access to crude oil on market terms to double the country’s current refining capacity.
  • Commission the Djermaya oil depot and promote the development of additional depots in other provinces.
  • Bring the Sedigui field into operation in partnership with the private sector. The field is expected to enable the country to refine 2 kb/d and process 400,000 cubic meters of gas per day.

The plan aims to "make Chad's oil sector more attractive to private investors by (i) modernising and accelerating block allocation procedures and (ii) relaunching intensive modern seismic data acquisition campaigns in strategic basins to better map hydrocarbon potential".

Covering the period 2025–2030, the plan relies heavily on public investments aimed at strengthening infrastructure and modernising resource development.
