CGNPC's Yangjian-2 nuclear project near commissioning (China)

China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) has moved ahead with the completion of the second reactor of its Yangjiang nuclear project in the southern Guangdong province of China. The company has connected the 1,000 MW unit to the Chinese grid and will start power generation after a 168-hour trail run. Construction started in 2009 and the project is expected to be commissioned by mid-2015.

The Yangjiang nuclear project consists of six units of 1,000 MW. The first reactor was commissioned in 2014 and the entire project will be operational in early 2019. When fully operational, it will generate about 48 TWh/year.

In addition, another 1,020 MW nuclear reactor is nearing commissioning in China: Ningde-3, in the Fujian province, has achieved first criticality. Four CPR-1000 units are being developed on this site, with the first two commissioned in 2013 and 2014 and the last two under construction and expected in 2015 and 2016. The Ningde nuclaer power plant is owned by China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGN), with a 46% stake, China Datang (44%) and Fujian Energy Group (10%).
