China General Nuclear Power Corporation (CGNPC) has completed the instillation of the reactor pressure vessel head at the second unit of the Fangchenggang nuclear power plant in the Guangxi province of China. Fuel loading was completed in late May 2016. The 1,000 MW unit is expected to enter commercial operation in the second half of 2016.
The Fangchenggang nuclear project is developed by CGNPC (61%) and Guangxi Investment Group (39%) and will consist of up to six units. Two CPR-1000 units (1,000 MW each) are already under construction on the Fangchenggang site, with unit 1 connected to the grid in late October 2015. Construction of Fangchenggang-3 started in December 2015 and that of the fourth unit is expected to start later in 2016; these units will be based on Hualong One reactors and are expected to be commissioned in 2019 and 2020, respectively. Units 5 and 6 will be AP1000s (1,100 MW each) and will be developed later.
