CGN starts commercial operation of Hongyanhe-4 nuclear power reactor (China)

China General Nuclear Power Group (CGNPC) has started commercial operation of the fourth reactor of the Hongyanhe nuclear power plant, located in the Liaoning province of China.



The Hongyanhe nuclear power plant consists of four 1087 MWe CPR-1000 pressurized water reactors and two 1080 MWe CGN-designed ACPR1000 reactors.



The first two reactors were commissioned in June 2013 and May 2014, respectively, and unit 3 in August 2015. The construction of the fourth unit started in August 2009. It reached criticality in March 2016 and was connected to the grid one month later.



Construction of the reactor 5 and 6 started respectively in March and July 2015. The reactors are expected to be commissioned respectively in November 2019 and in August 2020.



The Hongyanhe nuclear power plant is owned and operated by Liaoning Hongyanhe Nuclear Power, a joint venture between CGNPC and China Power Investment (45% each), with the Dalian Municipal Construction Investment holding the remaining 10%.
