China Nuclear Power Engineering Company (CNPEC), a subsidiary of China General Nuclear, has signed a contract with China Nuclear Industry 22 Construction Company (CNI22, part of China Nuclear Engineering and Construction Corporation (CNECC)) for civil construction works on the first two units of the Xudabao nuclear project in the Liaoning province of China.
The Xudabao project will consist of six 1,000 MW AP1000 reactors and is developed by CNNC's Lianoning Nuclear Power Company with 70%, China Datang with 20% and the State Development and Investment Corporation with 10%. CNPEC has been selected as general contractor for the project, estimated at Cyu 110bn (US$16bn). The National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) approved the project in January 2011 but the approval process was frozen two months later, in the wake of the Fukushima disaster. Final approval was reported to December 2015.
