China General Nuclear (CGN) has delayed the commissioning of the second phase of the Hongyanhe nuclear power plant in the Liaoning province (north-east China): unit-5 will start operations in the second half of 2021, i.e. one year later than initially planned, and unit-6 in the first half of 2022, i.e. 6 months after schedule. The construction of the two 1,080 MWe China General Nuclear (CGN)-designed ACPR1000 reactors started respectively in March and July 2015 and they were previously expected to be operational in November 2019 and in August 2020. Unit-5 entered the commissioning phase in October 2018 (cold functional testing), while unit 6 is still in the equipment installation phase.
The Hongyanhe nuclear power plant currently consists of four 1,087 MWe CPR-1000 pressurized water reactors. The first two reactors were commissioned in June 2013 and May 2014, respectively, and unit 3 in August 2015. The construction of the fourth unit started in August 2009. It was commissioned in September 2016. The Hongyanhe nuclear power plant is owned and operated by Liaoning Hongyanhe Nuclear Power, a joint venture between CGNPC and China Power Investment (45% each), while the Dalian Municipal Construction Investment holds 10%.
