ČEZ's power generation declined by 8% in 2021 (Czech Republic)

The Czech power utility ČEZ has released its 2021 results, posting a CZK63.2bn (€2.5bn) EBITDA. Total electricity generation decreased by 8% in 2021 to 56 TWh, due to a 17% fall in coal-fired and CCGT power generation (sale of the Počerady power plant and shutdown of the Prunéřov 1 and Energotrans 3 power plants), and to a 62% drop in wind power generation (sale of Romanian wind assets). This decline was partly offset by a 2% increase in nuclear power generation.

95% of the group's power generation came from Czechia (53 TWh (-6%), including 31 TWh from nuclear, 16 TWh from coal and lignite, 3.1 TWh from gas, 2.5 TWh from hydropower, 0.6 TWh from biomass and the remainder from solar PV, wind and biogas. Electricity sales to end customers in Czechia rose by 10% to nearly 19 TWh (+13% for sales to households to 8 TWh). In addition, electricity consumption in ČEZ Distribuce’s distribution area increased by 5% to 36.6 TWh.
