Centrica signs deal to buy 1.3 bcm/year of LNG from Delfin Deepwater Port (US)

The British energy group Centrica has signed a £7bn (US$8.5bn) Heads of Agreement with the American LNG export company Delfin Midstream to purchase 1 Mt/year (1.3 bcm/year) of LNG for 15-years on a free on board (FOB) basis at the Delfin Deepwater Port project, located off the coast of Louisiana.

The LNG deliveries will start in 2026, as it is the year during which the Delfin Deepwater Port is expected to be completed. The deal provides Delfin with another customer which will facilitate a final investment decision (FID) by the end of 2022 for the facility in the US. The LNG export project would consist of four LNG Vessels producing up to 13 Mt/year of LNG.

In June 2022, Centrica signed an additional £4bn (US$5bn) supply agreement with Norwegian oil and gas group Equinor for the delivery of an additional 1 bcm/year of gas supplies to the UK.
