Caturus plans to nearly double Commonwealth LNG capacity to 17.25 Mt/year (US)

US energy company Caturus intends to develop an additional 7.75 Mt/year of LNG production capacity through a five-train expansion at its six-train, 9.5 Mt/year Commonwealth LNG export facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana, United States (Caturus press release, 15/09/2026).

The planned expansion would bring the facility’s overall planned capacity to approximately 17.25 Mt/year, almost doubling its existing planned capacity.

“Base project construction is progressing safely and on schedule with operations targeted for 2030, with approximately 8.5 Mt/year of its 9.5 Mt/year capacity subscribed under long-term sale and purchase agreements”, according to the company’s press release.

  • In April 2026, Caturus announced that it had secured long-term offtake agreements with a number of energy and industrial companies, including EQT, Glencore, Mercuria, PETRONAS and Aramco Trading (KEI, 13/04/2026).
  • In May 2026, Caturus took a final investment decision (FID) on the project (19/05/2026).

The expansion is expected to come into operation in the early 2030s, after the base project is scheduled to begin operations.

Caturus is a privately owned company backed by US asset manager Kimmeridge, with investments from Abu Dhabi-based Mubadala Energy and the Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPP Investments).
