Canada-USA Keystone XL oil pipeline in final stage of review

TransCanada confirmed that the regulatory process for the Keystone XL pipeline has now entered the final stages of review by the U.S. Department of State. The company expects a final regulatory decision for this project by late 2011 while the Keystone expansion is expected to be operational in 2013. The Department of State concluded in the spring 2010 that Keystone XL would have limited impact on the environment during construction and operation. The proposed Keystone Gulf Coast Expansion Project is an approximate 2,673-km crude oil pipeline that would begin at Hardisty, Alberta and extend southeast through Saskatchewan, Montana, South Dakota and Nebraska. It would incorporate the 480-km portion of the Keystone Pipeline (Phase II) through Nebraska, Kansas to serve markets at Cushing, Oklahoma before continuing through Oklahoma to a delivery point near existing terminals in Nederland, Texas to serve the Port Arthur, Texas marketplace.
