LNG Canada (a JV between Shell, Petronas, PetroChina, Mitsubishi Corporation, and Kogas) has loaded Canada's first-ever LNG export cargo towards Asia. The shipment was loaded onto the tanker Gaslog Glasgow from LNG Canada's site in Kitimat (British Columbia, Canada), the first major North American facility with direct access to the Pacific coast.
The project is expected to reach a total capacity of 14 Mt/year once fully operational in 2026. Shell and its partners are currently working towards reaching an FID to double LNG Canada’s capacity, which may include the construction of two additional LNG trains. Each LNG Canada JV participant will provide its own natural gas supply and individually offtake and market their respective share of LNG from the facility.
Canada has two other LNG projects in construction: the Woodfibre LNG (2.1 Mt/year) expected to be commissioned in 2027, and Cedar LNG (3.3 Mt/year), a joint venture between Pembina Pipeline and the Haisla Nation with a commissioning expected in late 2028.
