SchneiTec has started operations of a 500 MW/1,000 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) with grid-forming inverters in Cambodia (AKP, 13/03/2026). The battery is located close to the SchneiTec solar power plant in Krakor district, Pursat province. According to AKP, the project represents the “first and largest of its kind” in the country, and a key step toward the strengthening of Cambodia’s national energy stability thanks to its integration to the grid. The project is expected to store excess electricity generated from solar and wind during the day to ensure a reliable supply and reduce the risks of outages and disruptions.
Cambodia aims to reach 70% share of renewables in its power mix by 2030. In 2024, almost 40% of the country’s power mix came from renewables.
