Bukit Asam's coal production rose by 24% in 2022 to 37 Mt (Indonesia)

The Indonesian coal mining company Bukit Asam (65.9% state-owned) has released its 2022 results, posting a net profit of IDR12,600bn (US$815m). The company's total coal production rose by almost a quarter in 2022 to 37.1 Mt. Bukit Asam's coal sales rose by 12% to 31.6 Mt in 2022,  including 19.2 Mt on the domestic market and 12.5 Mt of exports. The group aims to increase its coal output by 11% to 41 Mt in 2023. In addition, the volume of coal sales is expected to reach 41.2 Mt in 2023 (+30%).

Indonesia is the world's third-largest coal and lignite producer, with an output of 569 Mt in 2021. Around 80% of the country's production is exported and Indonesia is the world's largest coal and lignite exporter (442 Mt in 2021). Bukit Asam was the fourth-largest Indonesian coal mining company in 2021, with a production of 30 Mt, after Bumi Ressources (79 Mt), Adaro Energy (53 Mt) and Indika Energy (36 Mt).
