Brookfield launches 6 GW renewable energy platform Lumara in India

Brookfield has launched Lumara, a new renewable energy platform in India, anchored by an initial portfolio of more than 6 GW spanning solar, wind and BESS (Mercom India, 3/08/2026).

Backed by plans to deploy around USD600m to accelerate project development across the country, Lumara aims to address key development bottlenecks in India's renewable energy sector, including delays in power purchase agreement (PPA) contracting, grid connection queues, land acquisition processes and site development activities. The platform intends to provide financing to developers during the early stages of project development, including securing land and interconnection rights before PPAs are awarded.

The platform is expected to be funded through Brookfield's Catalytic Transition Fund, which focuses on clean energy and energy transition investments in emerging markets. Lumara is also exploring financing opportunities for projects pursuing merchant power strategies, without necessarily waiting for long-term PPAs.

Brookfield said the platform is intended to support the decarbonisation needs of commercial and industrial consumers, including global corporates and hyperscale data centre operators, by providing flexible renewable energy solutions

The company currently has around 45 GW of wind and solar assets in operation or under development across India.
