British company Glennmont commissions 211 MW wind farm in Finland

The British renewable company Glennmont has commissioned the 211 MW Piiparinmäki onshore wind farm, located in the Kainuu and North Ostrobothnia regions of central Finland. The Piiparinmäki wind farm is jointly owned by Glennmont and the Japanese company Kansai Electric Power, which became a minority stakeholder after purchasing a 15% stake in 2020.  The project is one of the largest unsubsidised wind park in Europe and has been constructed using wind turbine technology from Vestas, including 13 V150 4.2MW wind turbines, and 28 V150 5.6MW turbines. Google will off-take generation from 24 of the 41 turbines through a 10-year power purchase agreement (PPA) and the remaining power generation will be sold through a merchant agreement with Vattenfall.

In 2021, Finland reached 3.1 GW of installed wind capacity (+27% compared to 2020).
