The Brazilian state-owned oil company Petrobras expects to boost its diesel output by 120,000 bbl/d in 2025. This increase is part of an expansion of low-sulfur diesel (S-10) production at its Abreu e Lima, Replan, and Revap refineries in Brazil. The company currently produces between 600,000 and 700,000 bbl/d of diesel, which is crucial for heavy industry and the agriculture sector. The increased domestic output will help reduce diesel imports. The company plans to continue expanding its diesel production in the coming years, potentially adding another 100,000 bbl/d through additional refinery capacity expansions.
In addition, Brazil's National Energy Council has decided to maintain the mandatory biodiesel blend in diesel at 14% starting in March 2025, instead of increasing it to 15% as previously planned. The move aims to stabilize food prices, as most of Brazil's biodiesel is derived from soybeans.
