The Brazilian national oil & gas company Petrobras has put into operation the P-71 platform vessel, installed in the Itapu field, in the Santos Basin presalt area, 200 km off the coast of Rio de Janeiro. The P-71 is an FPSO (floating unit for the production, storage, and transfer of oil and gas) type with capacity to process up to 150,000 bbl/d barrels of oil and 6 mcm/d of gas, in addition to storing up to 1.6 mbl of oil.
Positioned in a water depth of 2,010 meters, the FPSO will be the only one to produce in the Itapu field, fully operated by Petrobras under the Transfer of Rights and Production Sharing regimes. The company expects the unit to reach its maximum production capacity in 2023. Petrobras produced 2.77 mboe/d of oil and gas in 2021 (-2.5% compared to 2020), including 2.22 mb/d of oil and NGL (-2.2%). Pre-salt production accounted for 70% of the company’s total output in 2021.
