Brazil awards 14 of 24 power transmission line projects in tender

Brazilian energy regulator ANEEL has awarded 14 of the 24 lots offered in a public tender for the construction of 6,500 km of power transmission lines in 20 Brazilian states. The 14 lots, consisting of 3,402 km of transmission lines and 7,265 MVA in substations, will require a total investment of R$6.7bn (US$1.9bn). The deadline for the construction works ranges from 36 to 60 months and concessions will last 30 years from the signing of contracts.

Among the winners, Consórcio Transmissão do Brasil won the lot A, including four 500 kV lines (500 kV Parnaíba III - Acaraú III C1, Acaraú III - Pecém II C1, Acaraú III - Tianguá II C1 and Bacabeira - Parnaíba III C1 and C2) and four 500 kV substations in Ceará, Maranhão and Piauí. State Grid Brazil Holding, a subsidiary of Chinese group State Grid, won two lots in Mato Grosso, including three 500 kV lines (Paranatinga -Ribeirãozinho - C3, Claudia - Paranatinga - C3, and Paranaíta - Claudia C3) and the 230 kV Paranatinga - Canarana line.
