The National Electric Energy Agency of Brazil (ANEEL) has approved the results of the energy auctions A-1 and A-2/2019, aimed a securing power generation from existing power generation projects with electricity supply starting in January 2020 and January 2021 respectively. Under the A-1 auction, Stima Energia will sell 509 GWh at an average price of BRL 158.37/MWh (US$36.3/MWh), while ten power producers will supply 4.9 TWh at an average price of BRL 171.52/MWh (US$39.3/MWh).
In addition, the ANEEL has approved the results of the power transmission auction 2/2019, which offered 12 lots of concessions, including 17 transmission lines and 16 substations, in the states of Acre, Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Pará, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do South and São Paulo. The auction attracted around 10 bidders per lot and reached a record discount of 60% on expected costs. Overall, 2,470 km of transmission lines and 7,800 MVA of transformation capacity will be added to the national power grid, for a total investment of BRL 4.2bn (over US$960m)).
