Brazil allows Elecnor's 318 MW wind project to produce first power

The Brazilian energy regulator ANEEL has allowed Enerfin, the Brazilian subsidiary of the Spanish energy group Elecnor, to start operation of the first wind park of the 318 MW São Fernando wind complex in São Bento do Norte and Caiçara do Norte (Paraíba, in north-eastern Brazil). The project requires a BRL1bn (US$187m) investment.

In addition, the Brazilian power generation company AES Tietê, a subsidiary of AES Corporation, has signed a BRL650m (US$123m) agreement to buy the 187 MW Ventus wind complex, located in Rio Grande do Norte (north-eastern Brazil) from the Brazilian electric utility J Malucelli Energia and others shareholders. The wind power complex includes three wind projects, namely 68.5 MW Miassaba 3, 58.5 MW Brasventos Eolo and 60 MW Rei dos Ventos 3. The power plants are operational since 2014 and have power purchase agreements (PPA) valid until 31 May 2034.

As of July 2020, Brazil’s wind capacity reaches 15 GW, accounting for almost 9% of the total capacity. More than 4 GW of wind capacity is under construction and 34 GW under development.
