BP’s GTA gas project offshore Senegal and Mauritania produces first gas

The UK oil and gas company BP has announced the production of first gas from the Greater Tortue Ahmeyim (GTA) Phase 1 gas project, located about 120 km off the coast of Mauritania and Senegal.

The GTA Phase 1 development is expected to produce around 2.3 Mt/year of LNG for more than 20 years. It is the first gas development in this new basin offshore Mauritania and Senegal. In February 2024, BP had announced that Golar LNG’s converted floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) vessel Gimi arrived at the GTA site. In June, BP announced the arrival of a floating production storage and offloading (FPSO) vessel expected to process over 500 mcf/d (5.2 bcm/year) of gas at the site.

In February 2023, BP and partners Kosmos Energy, PETROSEN and SMH confirmed the development concept for the second phase of the GTA project, which would have total capacity of between 2.5-3 Mt/year.
