BP ships first LNG cargo from the Tangguh facility train 3 in Indonesia

The British oil and gas company BP has shipped the first LNG cargo from the newly completed 3.8 Mt/year third train of the Tangguh LNG facility, located in West Papua in eastern Indonesia. The new Train 3 increases the total capacity of BP’s Tangguh LNG facility to 11.4 Mt/year. The first LNG cargo produced by the new train will be delivered to PLN’s regasification facility in Arun, in Indonesia’s Nanggroe Aceh Darussalam province.

The Tangguh LNG facility, which started operating in 2009, is operated by BP Berau Ltd on behalf of the other production sharing contract partners as contractor to Indonesia’s SKK Migas. BP and affiliates in Indonesia hold a 40.22% interest in the project. The next planned phase of development for the facility consists in a UCC project that includes the adoption of carbon capture utilisation and storage (CCUS) technology to help reduce CO2 emissions.
