BP and Linde plan a 15 MtCO2/year CCS project in Texas (US)

BP and Linde plan to develop a 15 MtCO2/year carbon capture and storage (CCS) project in Texas (United States), that will enable low carbon hydrogen production at Linde’s existing plant. The project, which is scheduled to be commissioned in 2026, will capture and store CO2 from Linde’s hydrogen production plants in the greater Houston area – and potentially from its other Texas plants – to produce hydrogen for the region. The low carbon hydrogen will be sold to customers along Linde’s hydrogen pipeline network under long-term contracts to enable production of low carbon chemicals and fuels. BP will appraise, develop, and permit the geological storage sites for permanent sequestration of the CO2

CO2 emissions from fuel combustion in the United States rebounded by 6% in 2021 to 4,632 MtCO2 after a 11% drop in 2020.
