Bouygues signs MoU for construction of a nuclear project in Saudi Arabia

The Saudi construction group Nesma & Partners has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bouygues Travaux Publics to implement all civil and construction works at the first potential nuclear plant to be built in Saudi Arabia. The Saudi National Atomic Energy Project (SNAEP) would have a capacity of 1,200-1,600 MW. Meanwhile, Bouygues Travaux Publics has entered into a framework agreement with EDF for global cooperation on future projects based on European Pressurized Reactors (EPR) technology.

Saudi Arabia plans to develop a two-unit 2.8 GW nuclear plant in Umm Huwayd and Khor Duweihin. The country has received requests for information (RFI) from a number of companies, including Westinghouse, EDF and Rosatom. In addition, South Korea’s Kepco and a Chinese nuclear power company also responded to the request for qualifications for the main contract.
