BlueFloat expands capacity of Gippsland wind project to 2.1 GW (Australia)

The renewable company BlueFloat Energy and Australia’s Energy Estate plan to expand the capacity of their Greater Gippsland offshore wind project, located off the coast of the Australian state of Victoria, from 1.3 GW to 2.1 GW. The choice was motivated by the Australian government’s decision to declare the Bass Strait Gippsland region as the first area to be assessed for offshore wind deployment.

Other than the bottom-fixed Greater Gippsland project, BlueFloat and Energy Estate are also partnering to develop two floating wind parks off the coast of New South Wales (southwestern Australia) totalling 3 GW. In August 2022, the two companies, alongside other partners, announced that they plan to develop four offshore wind projects in New Zealand with a potential capacity of up to 5 GW.
