BlueFloat and Renantis submit EIA for a 1.3 GW floating wind project in Italy

The renewable energy companies BlueFloat Energy and Renantis have submitted an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) procedure for their planned 1.3 GW Odra Energia floating offshore wind project, which will be located off the coast of the province of Lecce, in southern Italy. The EIA was submitted to the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security and the Ministry of Culture. The project plans for the installation of 90 floating wind turbines, for an expected production of about 4 TWh/year, equivalent to the consumption of more than one million Italian households. The overall investment in project construction and development is estimated at around €4bn.

BlueFloat Energy is also developing the 975 MW Tibula Energia floating offshore wind project off the north-eastern coast of Italys’ Sardinia.

As of end 2022, wind represented nearly 10% of Italy’s installed capacity with 12 GW and 7% of its power generation with nearly 21 TWh.
