BlueFloat Energy and Energy Estate have unveiled a plan for a 1.2 GW offshore wind project in southeast Australia. The Southern Winds offshore project, which will use bottom-fixed technology, will be located 10 to 30 km off the coast of the states of Victoria and South Australia, in the Portland West Renewable energy Zone. This site was chosen notably due to access to deep-water port facilities and appropriate infrastructure.
In June 2022, Macquarie Green Investment Group’s Corio Generation also announced plans to develop about 4 GW of offshore wind projects in southeast Australia, with its Great Eastern project (2.5 GW) and Great Southern project (1.5 GW). In 2021, wind power accounted for 11% of Australia’s installed capacity with 9 GW.
