BayWa r.e. gets approval for 804 MW hybrid wind project in NSW (Australia)

The New South Wales (NSW) Independent Planning Commission (IPC) in Australia has given the green light to the Bullawah wind park, a hybrid wind-and-storage project developed by Germany’s BayWa r.e. (IPC announcement, 01/10/2026). The approval covers up to 804 MW of wind generation combined with a 359 MW/718 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS). The hybrid project is planned for south-western New South Wales.

The IPC has imposed several conditions, including requirements concerning the use and upgrading of specific roads. It has also required BayWa to prepare a management plan aimed at minimising impacts on threatened species.

The Bullawah wind park is expected to be built in two separate stages, with BayWa having secured a grid allocation of around 260 MW in the south-west REZ. The developer hopes to add further capacity if the surrounding grid is upgraded (Renew Economy, 02/10/2026).
