Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Energy has unveiled gas, oil and electricity figures for 2023. According to the Ministry, Azerbaijan produced 48.3 bcm of natural gas in 2023 (+37% compared to 2022), with 12.9 bcm extracted from the Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli (ACG) field, 26.2 bcm from the Shah Deniz field and 0.8 bcm from the Absheron field. The state-owned company SOCAR produced 8.4 bcm of gas during the year (8.1 bcm in 2022). Gas exports amounted to 23.8 bcm in 2023 (+5%), with 11.8 bcm sold to Europe, 9.5 bcm to Türkiye and 2.5 bcm to Georgia.
Azerbaijan produced 30.2 Mt of crude oil (including condensate) in 2023 (-7%). The Azeri-Chirag-Gunashli field accounted for 17.8 Mt while Shah Deniz accounted for 4.3 Mt (condensate) and Absheron for 0.3 Mt. SOCAR's oil output amounted to 7.8 Mt (including condensate). Oil exports amounted to 25.2 Mt in 2023 (-5%).
Total electricity production in Azerbaijan amounted to 29.3 TWh in 2023 (+1%), with 27.2 TWh from thermal power plants, 1.8 TWh from hydro, 57 GWh from wind, 79 GWh from solar, and 223 GWh from waste incineration. Azerenergy accounted for most of the power generation (26.4 TWh, including 24.7 TWh from therma and 1.6 TWh from hydropower), followed by the State Energy Agency of Nakhchivan AR (481 GWh), Azerishig (42 GWh of wind power) and other IPP (2.3 TWh). Electricity exports amounted to 3.3 TWh (+8%), and imports to 212 GWh (+54%).
