Azerbaijan signs deals with Chinese companies to develop 2.4 GW of renewables

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Energy has signed several contracts with Chinese companies for the development of renewable energy and battery storage projects in Azerbaijan, totalling nearly 2.4 GW in capacity. Azerbaijan has notably signed a memorandum of understanding with China Datang Overseas Investment and PowerChina Resources on the development of a 2 GW offshore wind project to be located in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea.

In addition, the Azerbaijani Energy Ministry and SOCAR Green have signed an agreement with China Datang Overseas Investment on the development of a 100 MW floating solar power plant project with a 30 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) on Lake Boyukshor, near Baku. The contracts also include an investment agreement on the 100 MW Gobustan Solar project between Azerbaijan and Universal Solar Azerbaijan, a subsidiary of China's Universal Energy, as well as an agreement with PowerChina Resources on the development and implementation of a 160 MW solar power plant.
