Avantus advances 100 MW Kitt solar project and 400 MWh BESS in Arizona (US)

The US energy project developer Avantus has closed a financing package exceeding USD300m for the 100 MWac / 130 MWdc Kitt solar and energy storage project, which includes a 400 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) in Pinal County, Arizona, United States (Avantus press release, 05/03/2026).

Currently under construction, Avantus stated that Kitt is expected to begin commercial operations by the end of 2026. The project has a Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Arizona Public Service (APS) and will have the capacity to supply electricity to up to 32,000 homes in Arizona, according to the press release.

The financing package was secured with Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) and the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, New York Branch (CIBC).

Avantus develops, owns, and operates utility-scale clean energy projects across California and the Desert Southwest. The company currently reports a development pipeline of around 24 GWdc of solar and 75 GWh of energy storage across the Western United States
