Avangrid, the US subsidiary of the Iberdrola Group, has announced that it has obtained the final permit required for the New England Clean Energy Connect (NECEC) transmission line project, which will link the United States and Canada via a 233-km long high-voltage line.
- The NECEC project will deliver 1.2 GW of baseload hydropower from Québec (Canada) to New England (US).
- Avangrid is on track to energize the project following testing and commissioning, scheduled to conclude by the end of 2025.
With more than 10.5 GW of generation capacity across 24 states and assets including gas and electric utilities throughout the Northeast, Avangrid continues to expand its energy portfolio, investing heavily in US energy infrastructure. In September 2025, Iberdrola announced plans to increase its investments by 30% to €58bn to strengthen its networks in the United States and the United Kingdom by 2028 (KEI, 25/09/2025).
