5 Aug 2022

Avangrid, an affiliate of Iberdrola, has been designated to lead operations and management of the 800 MW Vineyard 1 offshore wind project, located off the coast of Nantucket Island, in Massachusetts (United States). The company will manage the plant once construction is completed, and commercial operations start. The company’s responsibilities include maintenance (of turbines, cables and substations), coordination of contractors, control center services, trading and assets management.

The Vineyard 1 wind project is being developed jointly by Avangrid and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP). It is expected to produce first power in 2023 and be commissioned in 2024. The project reached its financial close in September 2021 and started construction in November 2021.  The project will use 62 units of GE Renewable Energy’s Haliade-X 13-MW turbines.
