Australia’s APA Group acquires more than 0.5 GW of capacity from Alinta Energy

APA Group, an Australian natural gas infrastructure company, has entered into an agreement to acquire Alinta Energy’s power assets in Western Australia’s Pilbara region for AUD 1.7bn (US$1.1bn) including debt. Alinta Energy, a Australian energy utility controlled by Hong Kong-based Chow Tai Fook Enterprises (CTFE), owns and operates 543 MW of generation and storage assets in Pilbara region and more than 200 km of power transmission lines. Alinta Energy’s portfolio most notably comprise two dual-fuel gas- and diesel-fired power plants - the 210 MW Port Hedland plant and the 238 MW Newman plant as well as the Chichester solar project  (60 MW). The transaction also includes an 11.8% stake in the Goldfields gas pipeline, bringing APA’s total ownership interest to 100%. The project pipeline encompasses 82 MW of solar and storage projects under construction and more than 1 GW of renewables under development.
